The Top 5 Things to Do in Malta This May

May is hands down the sweet spot for visiting Malta. The Mediterranean sun is warm enough for the beach, the island is still lush and green from spring, and the massive summer crowds haven’t quite arrived yet. Whether you are staying with us at Bella Vista or just locking in your itinerary, the island is buzzing with things to do.

From local traditions to coastal escapes, here are five things you should definitely cross off your list this month:

1. Take a Boat to the Blue Lagoon

Before the peak summer rush packs the shorelines, May offers a perfect, quieter window to visit Comino. The water in the Blue Lagoon is a ridiculous shade of neon turquoise. It’s an ideal time to rent a kayak, go snorkeling, or just lounge on a boat deck without fighting for elbow room.

2. Catch a Village Festa

May marks the official start of Malta’s village feast season. Towns across the island take turns decking out their streets in massive banners, hosting marching bands, and firing off incredible fireworks. Don't leave without hitting the food stalls to try qubbajt (traditional Maltese nougat).

3. Wander the Streets of Mdina

Known as the "Silent City," this ancient, fortified town feels like a medieval movie set. The golden stone walls look beautiful in the May sunshine. It’s best explored by simply getting lost in its winding cobblestone alleys and stopping for a coffee on the bastion walls.

4. Visit the Ħaġar Qim Temples

Older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids, these megalithic temples sit right on Malta’s rugged southern coast. Because May weather is comfortably warm without the oppressive summer heat, it’s the best time of year to walk around these open-air prehistoric ruins.

5. Watch the Sunset at Dingli Cliffs

End a packed day at the highest point on the island. The Dingli Cliffs drop straight down into the Mediterranean, giving you an uninterrupted view of the horizon.

If you're planning your days out or need a hand booking a boat trip, just swing by the front desk here at Bella Vista. We'll point you in the right direction so you can make the most of your time on the island.
